A Peak District Portrait

The Peaks in Summer are a wonderful sight! And this was definitely the case as Maya, her mum and I went out to Surprise View for our portrait session.

Maya is one of many teenagers who has just finished writing her GCSE’s and this was an opportunity to relax outdoors and enjoy the freedom of no more exams. Oh, how I remember that feeling well!

My good friend and colleague Adele Aderhold from True Colours Image Consultancy gave Maya a beautiful natural look for the shoot. Though, Maya’s smile was enough in my opinion.

We chased the light as it sunk below the hill and were rewarded with some stunning views. It was wonderful getting to spend time with Maya and her mum and I’m so chuffed with how these portraits have turned out. Maya was a natural and it was a delight to be able to photograph her. I wish I’d been able to do this at her age. Life flies by so quickly that it’s so important to preserve these moments for years to come.

In Winter the ferns here are all brown and curled up but what a spectacle they become in Summer. I got rather excited when I saw this spot.

I love capturing people laughing. It shows so much fun and joy.

This was such a gorgeous view. The sun was dancing across the distant hills whilst we had some darker clouds coming in. Teenage girl looking over peaks

This spot out past Fox House pub on the outskirts of Sheffield is one of my favourite spots. It’s got wonderful greenery, big rocks and lovely light. Even on the days where the sun is hiding behind the clouds, it’s still great photographing here. Teenage girl standing by rocks

Though I absolutely love vibrant colour, there are times when turning a photo black and white adds a certain ambience to an image. And this was one of those images. Black and white photo of girl looking at sunset Three photos of teenage girl Teenage girl with sunset behind her

The sound this little river made was delightful! It was a great place to end our shoot at. Peaceful and calm, with the light fading gently. Though I do sometimes struggle to put my camera down…there always seems to be just one more thing I want to try. Teenage girl sitting by river
