Sheffield wedding – Tom & Emily

Matlock marquee wedding reception

Looking back at September, it looks so beautifully warm and sunny against the grey clouds and rain of February. But what fond memories the photos of Tom and Emily’s wedding evoke. Set against the backdrop of one of the synagogues in Sheffield and the city’s stunningly vibrant Botanical Gardens, this wedding was full of romantic dusky pink and ivory tones.

Tom and Emily did a wonderful job in planning a relaxed and welcoming wedding for their families and close friends. It was obvious that family is important to both of them. Emily got ready in a sprawling English country cottage in Matlock where her family had all joined her in preparation for this special day.

Lumsdale House provided the perfect location for bridal preparation. The light that filtered through the windows made photographing Emily and her bridesmaids an absolute joy. But what was even better was how relaxed everyone was.

Emily wore an elegant and romantic dress from Emily Bridal Wear in Sheffield…how fitting! An Emily dress for Emily. Her mum had done the most amazing job with the flowers. I couldn’t believe it when Emily told me they were silk. It meant her mum was able to do them well in advance of the day. She had matched the tones of the bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen’s ties perfectly and those little details brought everything together.

Tom showed just how thoughtful he is, sending Emily a gorgeous box of goodies to the cottage. The look on her face said it all. And whilst I photographed the bride and her bridesmaids my second photographer was with Tom and his groomsmen at the Jubilee Centre where the ceremony was taking place.

Though it was raining in the morning, the sun broke out as if on cue, ready for Emily to step out of the car as she arrived at the ceremony. And no matter how many weddings I get to witness I never get tired of listening to two people promising to love and cherish each other for the rest of their lives. I do make sure I always have tissues on me as I have been known to well up on many an occasion.

My favourite part of photographing the newly married couple afterwards is seeing how they look at each other. And Tom and Emily did not disappoint. It was also a great opportunity to spend a little time together before joining their guests for the wedding breakfast.

Tom and Emily had chosen a gorgeous venue for their reception. The Fox and Goose in Chesterfield was bathed in a glorious afternoon light as everyone gathered for the reception. The speeches were spot on and I loved learning a bit more about each of them from those who know them best. They then danced the night away with their friends and family. Wow, they know how to party!
